those archives that send students to Marburg have to pay to the Archivschule were redefined to cover almost 100% of the tuition costs. At that time the Archivschule got about 35,000 DM for each student.13These organizational reforms were necessary in order to reform the curriculum. In 1997, after long discussions of nearly 8 years, a new training and examination regulation14 for postgraduate students was adopted and it has been valid since 1999. In those days, the theoretical part was limited to one year for the benefit of the practical part, which now comprises nine months. In addition, the students had to write a small final report. Also the exams were changed for the benefit of archival sciences (see Table 2). - - - - KARSTEN UHDE TIMES ARE CHANGING Examinations up to 1999 Length Examinations since 1999 Length Written examinations Transcription and diplomatic analysis of a medieval Latin charter 5 hours Transcription and diplomatic analysis of a medieval Latin charter 5 hours Transcription and diplomatic analysis of a medieval German charter 5 hours Transcription and diplomatic analysis of a medieval German charter or of a modern French text 5 hours Transcription and diplomatic analysis of a modern French text 5 hours Archival law 5 hours Transcription and diplomatic analysis of a modern German text 5 hours Transcription and diplomatic analysis of a modern German text 5 hours Oral examinations Archival science 20 min.
