The National Archives
The Rt Hon Simon Hughes MP, Minister
of State for Justice and Civil Liberties,
said: "Our country's archives are one of
our greatest national treasures,
preserving our history for future
generations and underpinning our
national identity. It is vitally important
they are properly preserved for the
future. This guidance forms part of The
National Archives' continuing work with
local government, business and private
sector partners to make sure our
heritage stays in safe hands."
We will update the guidance regularly,
drawing on the experiences of authori
ties setting up new spin-outs and of the
spin-outs themselves. In addition, The
National Archives will deliver 'Spin Out'
master classes for archive services this
autumn.

kennen een groot aantal musea en
historische plaatsen die te maken

eenvoudig terug te vinden, samen met
korte video's.

De juridisch adviseur stelt dat er nog
heel wat moet gebeuren wil big data in
Nederland van de grond komen. "Maar
het is geen hype, denk aan de ontdek
king van vuur." Schouten vergelijkt big
data met de manier waarop holbewo
ners vuur hebben leren gebruiken. "Het

Rekencentrum en werkplekken
Keller denkt dat al die computerservers
in de kelder en al die werkplekken met
kantoorapplicaties prima vanuit de cloud
te regelen zijn. Kleinere gemeenten
zouden daarmee zelfs kunnen besparen
op de gemiddeld 65 a 70 euro die ze per
inwoner per jaar aan ICT kwijt zijn.
Bestaande samenwerkingsverbanden in
de vorm van shared service centers - net
als de cloud toch ook een vorm van
gedeelde infrastructuur - hebben
volgens hem hun beloften (nog) niet
waargemaakt. "De noodzakelijke
harmonisatie van hun processen
schuiven ze voor zich uit."
Vooroordelen
Vooroordelen rond kosten en beveiliging
weerhouden gemeenten van de stap
naar de cloud, denkt Keller. Terwijl die
veiligheid toch vaak ook binnenshuis
niet goed geregeld is. Daar zijn
cloudproviders gewoon beter in, zegt hij
in Automatisering Gids.

collections.
In recent years, the trend for heritage,
library and archive services to convert to
charitable trusts, social enterprises,
mutual, local authority trading compa
nies or a transfer to community
management has increased. This
conversion is commonly known as
'spinning out'.
Supporting archive services
In a spin: guidance on spinning out local
authority archive services, has been
developed to support local authority
archive services and their managers and
funders in making informed decisions
about the future of their archive services
and collections. It outlines different
models for service spin-outs and their
implications for archive services. It also
highlights key regulatory considerations
and alternative options. The guidance
stresses the importance of considering
what is best for individual archives and
includes case studies of spin-outs that
are in the process of being launched.
