Currents
Archival Thinking
This book explores key topics in the
theory and practice of archival studies
within three frameworks: (1) the
foundational concepts of the discipline,
(2) the main components of the archival
mission, and (3) the metaphors that
shape how we think about archives and
archival institutions. Each essay will
explore a given topic from both a
historical and contemporary perspective,
with contributors are drawn from Europe,
Australia, Canada and the United States
and featuring a mix of academics and
practitioners.

Freedom of Information. Open Access,
Empty Archives? (Routledge 2009)
The Freedom of Information (FOI) Act
has raised a number of shared problems
and concerns. These problems are
common among countries with FOI
legislation. This book compares and
reflects upon both the successes and
difficulties of FOI across the world. It is of
interest to people across the disciplines of
history and archive studies.
Anneli Sundqvist, Search Processes,
User Behaviour and Archival
Representational Systems
(Mid Sweden University 2009)
Information technology and political
motives, e.g. e-governance, freedom of
information legislation, has recent years
lead to an increasing emphasis on users
and access to records, but little research
based knowledge about those issues
exist so far. The main focus of the
previous research is the use of non-
current records in archival repositories.
The aim of this thesis is to make a
contribution to the research field, in
order to gain a better understanding of
the information behaviour of users of
records in contemporary organizational
settings. Digitaal beschikbaar: http://

Elena S. Danielson, The Ethical
Archivist (SAA 2010)
Archivists deal with unique ethical
challenges on a regular basis, and these
complex conundrums are the focus of
this compelling book. Danielson
illustrates how the daily decisions made
by archivists connect to larger issues of
social responsibility and the need to
construct a balanced and accurate
historic record.
