Recommmendations
The International Conference of the Round Table on Archives considering that the dis
tribution of general information about archives, which constitutes an essential factor in
the promotion of better understanding among nations in assuring the promotion of re
search, must be accorded attention by archives administrations and archival instituti
ons, that a wider use of information tools is desirable to insure a better coordination of
the archival services which are responsible for the orientation of users on the national
and international levels and that a concerted approach to providing information con
cerning archival resources will normally greatly assist archives users in their search;
1. recommends to archives administrations and archival institutions to expand the in
ternational distribution of their guides and information pamphlets,
2. recommends the systematic envoy of publications of archives administrations and
archival institutions to the ICA Library,
3. recommends, that archives administrations provide for the periodic distribution of
publication lists with special reference to recent publications,
4. recommends that the ICA Executive Committee include in the publication pro
gramme of ICA the periodic distribution of bibliographical information on guides,
directories and similar information tools,
5. expresses the wish that the Regional Branches of ICA should be involved in the
preparation of all descriptive and statistical works which relate to archives in the
developing countries and that the Branches be informed about the results of such
undertakings,
6. notes with satisfaction the efforts undertaken by various archives administrations
and archival institutions in publishing information brochures and summary guides
in various languages and encourages others to follow this initiative,
7. notes with satisfaction that UNESCO and ICA within the framework of the
RAMP programme have undertaken the elaboration of guidelines for the format
of general guides to archives repositories and recommends that its members sup
port this action in taking into account the standards wich are to be formulated to
correspond to the needs of users in all countries,
8. recommends to archives administrations and archival institutions to take appropri
ate publication measures so as to allow for a wide distribution of archival finding
aids, taking into account the research interest of the records concerned,
9. recommends to the archives administration of all countries to make every effort
that foreign users are granted the same rights of access and the same research facili
ties which are given to their own citizens, recalling and renewing the respective re
commendations by the International Congresses on Archives at Madrid, Washing
ton and London,
10. recommends, that there should be continuing cooperation and exchange of infor
mation between archives administrations of countries, which have had particulary
close connections in the past, in order to facilicate the work of the searchers in the
archives of the respective countries.

De drieëntwintigste Brabantse Archivarissendag te Leuven,
19 - 20 november 1981
Op donderdagavond 19 november kwamen de archivarissen bijeen in de gotische zaal
van het Stadhuis van Leuven. Het was de eerste keer, dat zij te gast waren in de oude
hoofdstad van Brabant. Gastheer dr. J. Roegiers, hoofdbibliothecaris en archivaris van
de K.U. Leuven, verwelkomde de collega's en nodigde hen na enige organisatorische
mededelingen uit om in een nabijgelegen zaal een uit 1956 daterende film te gaan zien
over De Universiteit te Leuven. Dat er in de laatste 25 jaar in het onderwijs veel veran
derd is weet iedereen, maar een archieffilm als deze maakt dat wel erg hard duidelijk.
Bij het verlaten van de filmzaal werd verder aan alle aanwezigen een exemplaar van de
Duitse of Engelse editie van een uit 1958 daterend fotoboek over de Katholieke Univer
siteit van Leuven 1425-1958 uitgedeeld, waarin men straks thuis een en ander nog eens
rustig kan bekijken. De rest van de avond werd doorgebracht in de Raadskelder onder
het Stadhuis, waar naar goed gebruik onder het genot van een voortreffelijk glas bier
vele contacten werden vernieuwd en gelegd.
De volgende ochtend begon de samenkomst reeds om kwart over negen. Deze vond
plaats in de Conferentiezaal boven in het gebouw van de Faculteit Letteren en Wijsbe
geerte aan de Blijde Inkomststraat. Onder de ruim tachtig aanwezigen waren thans ook
de beide algemene rijksarchivarissen, de heren mr. A. E. M. Ribberink en dr. C. Wyffels.
De eerste inleider was de heer drs. J. de Maeyer, secretaris van het Katholiek
Documentatie- en Onderzoekcentrum (KADOC), die een heldere voordracht hield over
doel en werking van dit Centrum. Het is onmogelijk alle aspecten van zijn betoog in het
kort weer te geven. Hier vindt U dus alleen een paar basis-gegevens.
Het KADOC is gestart in 1977. De doelstelling was en is het zo goed mogelijk voorko
men van het verloren gaan van katholiek documentatie-erfgoed. Een belangrijke reden
van bestaan is te vinden in het feit dat sommige katholieke personen en verenigingen
hun documenten niet aan openbare rijks- of gemeenteinstellingen willen overdragen.
Daarnaast is de toevloed zo groot, dat deze instellingen niet (niet altijd) in staat zijn die
te verwerken.
Verder is ook het onderzoek een belangrijke taak, die daarom ook uitdrukkelijk in de
naam worden vermeld. Bij de oprichting liet men zich inspireren door het reeds uit 1969
daterende Katholiek Documentatiecentrum (KDC) te Nijmegen en het in 1974 opge
richte 'Centre de recherche d'histoire religieuse' te Parijs.
Bij de acquisitie is de informatie vooraf bijzonder belangrijk. Wanneer archieven wor-
